Coerver® Coaching Performance Academy players from across
the UK descended on Warwick University during the recent school holidays to
take part in a 2-day residential PRO coaching clinic in in association with media partner, Match
Of The Day Magazine (see above image).
The concept behind Coerver® PRO clinics is to give players
that are not in the academy system an insight into all areas of development at
Elite level. Scott Wright, UK Director Coerver® Coaching said of the PRO clinic
“Our PRO residential clinic provides players within our Performance Academy
programme across the UK with the opportunity to live and train like a pro
player over 2-days hosted at one of the best facilities in the country at
Warwick University. We have brought in some great people from the pro game to
work with the players who will pass on valuable experience and advice that will
help the players to develop both on and off the pitch.”
Day 1 of the PRO clinic was opened up by Scott Wright, UK
Director Coerver® Coaching who delivered a presentation on the delivery of
Coerver® Coaching at Elite Youth level. Gavin Taylor, Performance Coach at
Fulham FC then gave a fascinating presentation based on the life of a young
professional at Fulham FC from U9 through to U18 from their technical & physical
development through to injury prevention and nutrition.
Players were then provided with a nutritious lunch and then
participated during the afternoon in practical sessions based on the topics
delivered in the morning’s presentations. Following a hard
day’s training, the players were able to use the fantastic leisure facilities
on offer at Warwick University, that had hosted the Premier League™ Cup only
days earlier which saw teams including Ajax, Everton, Sporting Lisbon,
Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid battling to win the prestigious U15
tournament that is held each year at the facility.
Day 2 of the PRO clinic was opened up by Matt Newbury,
recruitment officer at Birmingham City FC who delivered a presentation on the
recruitment criteria that the club look for when signing young players. This proved to be an excellent insight for players wanting to
make the step up to academy football.
Following another nutritious lunch, attending players were
put through their paces during practical sessions with Coerver® Coaching UK
Director, Scott Wright & Stoke City FC academy coach and
former professional player, Rich Walker.
During Rich’s 12 year professional career as a central
defender, playing nearly 200 league games, he came up against some of the best
strikers in the game including Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, Nicholas Anelka and
Jermaine Defoe but to name a few.
Rich was on hand to talk to the players about his experiences and said of the Coerver® PRO clinic “The Coerver PRO
coaching clinic at Warwick University gives participating players the
opportunity to experience a professional football environment, with the
residential course catering for all 4 corners of development. Coerver has an unrivalled reputation for
delivering sessions that provide players with the skill foundation needed to
tackle all the demands of the modern game which makes this residential course
and the Performance Academy programme a must for any young player looking to
progress”.
Coerver® Coaching UK have plans to take the PRO clinic on
the road across the UK regional network which will see some of the leading
experts across of a variety of fields in professional football work exclusively
