Oliver Plunkett announce exciting new coaching partnership

17 October 2013

West Belfast side St. Oliver Plunkett FC have recently announced an exciting new partnership with world renowned coaching specialists Coerver.
Inspired by Weil Coerver and founded by Alf Galustian and Chelsea legend Charlie Cooke, their teaching methods are endorsed by football clubs and federations worldwide including the French Football Federation, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Arsenal.

As part of the club’s ‘Coach Development Plan’, Plunkett coaching staff took to the field at Lenadoon Park to see for themselves just what all the fuss is about, with Austin Speight, from Coerver Coaching, facilitating a three-hour session on their methods.

It proved a positive, in-depth look and enjoyable experience for the attending coaches.

“Coerver Coaching is thrilled at working at clubs like Oliver Plunkett who, without such clubs at grassroots level, players will never get the opportunities to develop a love of sport and maybe a career either as a player, coach or volunteer,” said Speight.
“Coerver is very committed to enhancing such clubs and assisting in developing the level of coaches and coaching content. We are the only coaching program that works from six-year-olds at grassroots level right through to Pro, International and National Association levels of the game globally. So it is an honour to bring the programme to a top Belfast club.”

The club will now look at implementing the Coerver techniques and methods into their renowned Skills Development Centre, and right across all training sessions at the club.

Chairperson Martin McLaughlin said: “The partnership is great news and after today’s coach education session, which has been very worthwhile, it’s clear to see that we have made the right choice. There was a great turn- out today and there has been a great response from the club coaches have enjoyed every minute of the session, taking loads of coaching pointers away with them.

“With a duty of care to not only our players but also our coaches, we have been looking at ways to help them develop their knowledge and this has been a huge positive step.  We have recently created a role within the club for Coach Education, to help our current coaches’ progress.  Better coaches equals better training sessions and we want to keep evolving, developing players of all abilities and bettering St. Oliver Plunkett FC.”
