Coerver® Partner Club PRO Tour to Real Madrid CF a huge success!

Coerver® Coaching England & Wales have returned from Madrid once again, this time following a superb PRO Tour to the Spanish capital with 130 members of our Partner Club networks.

Players, parents and coaches representing Coerver® Partner Clubs Robin Hood JFC from Leeds, Littleover Dazzlers from Derby, Rugby Town JFC from Warwickshire, Spartak Saffron Walden & PSG Girls from Essex all travelled to Real Madrid C.F to experience what goes on behind the scenes at the largest club in global football.
The concept behind the PRO Tour is to provide young players and their families with the opportunity to experience football in another country – both and off the pitch. On the pitch, young players are given the chance to experience a different approach to learning the game from coaches in another country. It is also a chance to gain knowledge that they may not experience in their normal football environment. Off the pitch, it gives the scope to explore a vibrant new part of the world and find out what football means to a completely new culture.

Attendees were a part of a 3-day trip that was strategically planned to provide an experience that reinforced both the football and cultural PRO Tour goals. Part one saw players and their families travel from the team hotel in Alcobendas to the Coerver® Coaching Spain Futsal academy in the centre of Madrid.

The centre hosts weekly Coerver® Futsal sessions led by current Spain national team captain Carlos Ortiz and current World Futsal player of the year, Ricardinho. During the 3-hour visit, players took part in a multi-faceted futsal training session which taught the key fundamental skills to be successful when playing in a futsal environment.
The second part of the tour provided attendees time to get into the great city of Madrid and embrace the football culture of the Madridistas. PRO Tour attendees were at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu for the Saturday evening La Liga game between Real Madrid CF and Valencia CF. We were able to see the biggest names in global football up close and personal in a game that saw the hosts winning 2-1  thanks to a late Marcelo goal.

The following morning, attendees revisited the scenes of the previous day’s triumph, embarking on a full tour of Real Madrid’s stadium. The tour is a hybrid of state-of-the art interactive technology which displays Real Madrid’s rich footballing history and the ability to access operational areas of the stadium that is used by the club.

The final segment of the tour provided the most inspiring moments of the tour – an access all areas visit to Ciudad Real Madrid, the Real Madrid CF training and academy campus in Valdebebas. Here, players and their families were given a guided tour of the Real Madrid training facility before heading out onto the academy pitches to participate in 2 x 1.5 hour training sessions with coaching staff from Real Madrid’s academy – a fitting way to end the PRO Tour.

“The concept of the PRO Tour is to provide our Partner Club players with the opportunity to experience elite level training environments and to experience the culture in a different country” said Coerver® Coaching England & Wales Head of Coaching & Football Operations, Luke Cheyne.

“Due to our network of partners all over the world and our long-standing global partnership with adidas®, we are able to offer our members with opportunities that would otherwise seem impossible. Following on from a hugely successful first season of the Partner Club programme, we were delighted to take a selection of players, parents and coaches over to Madrid to experience life within one of the world’s biggest clubs.”

“This is the third time we have returned to Real Madrid CF with our members in the past 2 years, having previously being here for our 2015-16 PRO Tour in addition to our recent Performance Academy PRO Tour in February 2017. We are delighted and fortunate to have forged a strong relationship with a club of Real’s stature – the hard work that has gone into this relationship has allowed us to bring our players on this amazing trip.”

“The PRO Tour is a phenomenal experience – not only just for the players but for those family members accompanying them as well. Aside from the football, the PRO Tour offers the opportunity for our families to explore, experience a new culture and discover a new city together.”

“Coming to a place such as Madrid can only be inspirational for a young player. Having the opportunity to train on the same pitches as Real Madrid academy players, to see first team players live in a competitive game, these are all amazing life experiences that we hope will ignite the passion for the game of football in our players and will drive them to achieve the highest level of football possible when they return to the UK.”

“The PRO tour is an added benefit of our Partner Club programme, which already supports the club in a number of areas including session planning, coach education and player and parent education, via the provision of both real-life technical coaching and online support. These clubs join the likes of Rangers FC and Portuguese giants Benfica in their collaboration with Coerver® Coaching.”

Coerver EW Director invited back to lecture at the Real Madrid University

Last weekend saw Coerver® England & Wales Director, Scott Wright, travel back to the Spanish capital city of Madrid to lecture on the Real Madrid University MSc in Talent Identification and Development in Soccer Course at the Villaviciosa de Odon campus.

Having first received an invitation to lecture on the course in 2014, this occasion has made it four years in a row that Scott has delivered to students on the course – a course that is jointly ran by the European University of Madrid (Universidad Europea) and the World’s biggest football club, Real Madrid CF.

Two theory and two practical based Coerver® coach education sessions were delivered to this year’s intake of MSc students who were selected from around the world to attend the prestigious course.
“It was a great honour to be invited back for the fourth year in a row to lecture to this year’s Real Madrid university MSc students – students who have re-located to the Spanish capital for the year long course from across Spain and beyond” said Scott. “The course itself has a number of unique elements, firstly the applied knowledge of the faculty of staff really is on a different level to any course such as this that I am aware of.”

“Presenters are brought in from across the professional game who are currently working with some of the world’s leading clubs and national teams. For example, on the Friday before I delivered, the head of Sevilla FC’s academy worked with the students. This course provides them with a truly global view of current football trends and methods, not just in the classroom but equally out on the pitch.”

“When you combine this with the knowledge and experience of the course students, with a number already working within the professional game and blend that with the knowledge and experience of the biggest sports club in the world, this truly is a benchmark Master’s degree in the field of Football and creates an incredible learning environment for all.”

“The global football network that is associated to the course enables the students to work with, visit and collaborate with the worlds’ leading football clubs and organisations and it’s great for ourselves at Coerver® Coaching to be classed within that bracket by the directors of the MSc course here at the Real Madrid university.”

“As an example, three of the students from last years in-take are now working full-time within the Real Madrid academy so the pathway is most certainly in place for students to progress into roles directly from the course.”

“Once again, we have received fantastic feedback from the students and course directors who feel that the Coerver® methodology adds real value and supplements the existing modules of work and current knowledge base that they have.”

“We look forward to continuing our relationship here with the Real Madrid university and returning to Spain during the new academic year which will be our fifth consecutively – to date we are the only lecturers to have been invited to the course from the UK which of course is a huge honour for us.”

Coerver EW get behind the scenes with England Rugby

England continued their preparations for Saturday’s potentially record-breaking Six Nations clash with Ireland, under the watchful eye of a study group from Coerver® Coaching at the team’s training HQ at Pennyhill Park in Surrey.

Coerver® England and Wales Director, Scott Wright and Head of Coaching Luke Cheyne joined Coerver® Coaching Co-Founder Alf Galustian, CEO Jimmy Galustian and Newcastle United Academy Director, Joe Joyce to watch England’s preparation ahead of the game in Dublin.

Having already secured the Six Nations title with a 61-21 victory over Scotland at Twickenham last weekend, England are on the verge of over-taking the All Blacks’ record successive first class international victories, with a win against Ireland on Saturday seeing Eddie Jones’ squad of talented and determined players take their tally to 19, 18 of which have come under Jones’ tenure. A positive result on Saturday would also see England secure their second consecutive Grand Slam, their first since 1991/92 season.

Following the intense training session, head coach Eddie Jones took time out of his busy schedule for a discussion with the group as he prepares his side for the opportunity that lies ahead at the Aviva Stadium, sharing an insight into how he has instilled such success into the England camp.

Coerver® England & Wales Director Scott Wright (pictured above with James Haskell and Courtney Lawes) said “It was a phenomenal experience to see the preparation ahead of such an important and historic match. The attention to detail and the way in which the session was structured was something I’ve never seen before in football.”

“The intensity of the session was incredible when you consider it is only a couple of days before such a big match. Then to sit down with Eddie Jones, who is a huge admirer of the Coerver Coaching programme, to discuss the details around the session and coaching in general was the icing on the cake of what was an unbelievable experience. We were made to feel really welcome, and the openness of all of the staff showed real class.”

“It’s no surprise that England rugby is seeing so much success on the pitch at the moment. To see such fantastic leadership from both players and staff, precise planning with each element of the session meticulously executed at such a high intensity throughout, really was something special and I’m looking forward to seeing the game plan come off on Saturday.”

Coerver® England & Wales Head of Coaching Luke Cheyne added: “From a professional perspective, to be up so close and personal with the squad and staff ahead of a game of such magnitude on Saturday and in the middle of a hugely successful period in the history of English rugby, is an experience that I will never forget. We gained a great insight into the environment that has bred so much success recently. We have been lucky enough in recent years to visit and work within a number of professional environments, including FC Bayern Munich and Real Madrid within the last 12 months, so to add this visit is really special.”

“Pennyhill Park has seen a number of well documented visits during this Six Nations campaign, with England Manager Gareth Southgate, Chelsea’s Antonio Conte and former England cricket captain Alastair Cook all sharing ideas, and it’s great for us to join that sort of company. With a long and illustrious history over he past 33 years, we at Coerver Coaching are constantly looking to learn and bring new ideas that can help to continually evolve and develop our programmes all over the world.”

“From a personal point of view, as a rugby player myself and a huge England rugby supporter, this was certainly up there with one of the greatest experiences I have ever had. To watch the boys training, with an intensity to everything they do, underpinned by a phenomenal work rate and willingness to improve each and every day. I’m really excited for the game in Dublin this weekend and I’m confident we’ll see us win another Grand Slam. We look forward to further visits to Pennyhill in the future, and we thank Eddie and his staff for such fantastic hospitality.”

Coerver® PRO Tour to Real Madrid CF a huge success!!

Friday 17th February 2017 saw 150 members of Coerver® Coaching England & Wales travel to Madrid for the 2016-17 PRO Tour to Real Madrid C.F.

60 Performance Academy players from Coerver® Midlands and Coerver® West London participated in the once in a lifetime trip to experience what goes on behind the scenes at the biggest club in global football.

The first segment saw players and their families travel from the team hotel in Alcobendas to the Coerver® Coaching Spain Futsal academy in the centre of Madrid.

Segment 2 of the trip provided the time to be a part of the great city of Madrid and embrace the football culture of the Madridistas. PRO Tour attendees were at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu for the Saturday evening La Liga game between Real Madrid CF and RCD Espanyol. We were able to see the biggest names in global football up close and personal in a game that saw the hosts winning 2-0 with Gareth Bale making his long awaited comeback from injury, capped with a fantastic goal to seal the win for Los Blancos.

Following the game, attendees embarked on a full tour of Real Madrid’s stadium. The tour is a hybrid of state-of-the art interactive technology which displays Real Madrid’s rich footballing history and the ability to access operational areas of the stadium that is used by the club (i.e. the changing rooms, press room and the team bench on the sideline!!).

The final segment of the tour provided the most inspiring moments of the tour – an access all areas tour of Ciudad Real Madrid, the Real Madrid CF training and academy campus in Valdebebas. Here, players and their families were given a guided tour of the Real Madrid training facility – the place where all associated with Real Madrid CF spend most of their time on a daily basis. Our Performance Academy players then headed out onto the academy pitches to participate in 2 x 1.5 hour training sessions with coaching staff from Real Madrid’s academy – a fitting way to end the PRO Tour.

Scott Wright is the Director of Coerver® England & Wales and has planned the PRO Tour to its final detail. “Following this trip to Real Madrid CF, we have completed our 5th edition of the Coerver® PRO Tour” said Scott. “The concept of the PRO Tour is to provide our Performance Academy and Partner Club players with the opportunity to experience elite level training environments and to experience the culture in a different country”.

“We have returned to Real Madrid CF, having previously being here for our 2015-16 PRO Tour.

We package the PRO Tour as a family break and schedule plenty of time for the families to explore and discover a new city together.”

“We feel that the PRO Tour gets better each year – this has without doubt been the best PRO Tour to date. Everything has been on point and a huge amount of thanks has to go to all of the attendees for their cooperation throughout the weekend. Special thanks must also go to Real Madrid and their academy staff for their hospitality.”

“Coming to a place such as Madrid can only be inspirational for a young player. Having the opportunity to train on the same pitches as Real Madrid academy players, to see first team players live in a competitive game, to sit on the same bench that Gareth Bale did only a few hours before you – these are all amazing life experiences that we hope will ignite the passion for the game of football in our players and will drive them to achieve the highest level of football possible when they return to the UK.”

2016-17 Coerver® Partner Club programme update

With the 2016-17 Coerver® Partner club programme reaching the half-way point of it’s inaugural season, Coerver® EW Director Scott Wright, and Head of Coaching, Luke Cheyne, have recently completed the delivery of the third instalment of this seasons coach education programme.

The Coerver® Partner Club Programme provides specialist support for clubs from grassroots to professional level and covers four key components which includes Technical Coaching , Coach Education, Session Planning and On-line Learning, all aimed at providing selected clubs with ‘The Skillful Edge’.

Gap Connah’s Quay Nomads FC (North Wales), Spartak Saffron Walden FC & PSG (Essex), Robin Hood Athletic FC (South Yorkshire), Littleover Dazzlers FC (Derbyshire), Rugby Town JFC (Warwickshire) & Alvis JFC (West Midlands) form the first cluster of Coerver® Partner Clubs in England & Wales and launched in September 2016.

Coerver® EW Director Scott Wright said “We are really pleased with how our Partner Club programme has started this season and even though we are only 5 months in, we are starting to see real traction across the network.”

“It takes time to bed something as comprehensive as this into a club where ultimately we are implementing a new playing style, a structured technical curriculum across all age groups, education sessions for players, coaches and parents with each component being underpinned with our on-line platform.”

“There has been a lot of consistent feedback from our Partner Clubs so far who are now starting to see signs of development during game play with their various age group teams. We want to develop game effective players and we are now starting to see that they are becoming more comfortable on the ball, which is aided by our Home Study site, and are more confident in 1 v 1 situations, both in attack and defence.”

“The concept of winning the ball back and attacking quickly, being able to keep possession, creating and converting goal chances both individually and in small groups have all also been high on the feedback list.”

“Another real development is that of football fitness. Coerver® technical sessions require players to work extremely hard and we want to instil a hard work mindset in the players so from the feedback that we have received, the benefits of the intensity during training sessions has been very apparent on a match day.”

“With session plans being provided, this now makes the training process easier to manage for the coaches and our regular education sessions provide the opportunity for regular review and preview mentoring opportunities.”

“All in all, we are delighted with the progress that has been made so far and we have a really strong foundation to build on now as we head into the second half of the season. We are already looking ahead to September 2017 when we plan to welcome a new cluster of clubs into the programme which will be undergoing some major enhancements which we aim to have in place for the start of the new season.”

SIGNED! Coerver® Kid Louis signs his first professional contract!

Coerver® Midlands are delighted to announce that Performance Academy member, Louis Harris, has agreed a contract to join Walsall FC.
Louis, 10, joined our Performance Academy in November 2014 and, during his time with us, has pushed his own technical development forward at an exceptional rate.

Performance Academy Manager, Brad Smith, oversees our centres in the Birmingham area and has kept a close eye on Louis’ development pathway with Coerver® for over two years.

“Louis is a perfect example of how a combination of focus, practice and hard work can result in individual success” said Brad. “During his time at the Performance Academy, Louis consistently demonstrates the perfect attitude towards learning and this is evident in his technical development since joining the programme at 8 years old.”
“Louis applies 100% attention and effort in every Coerver® session that he attends which enables him to take away as much technical detail as possible. In addition, he consistently dedicates his own time to the Home Study programme which has developed a great connection with the ball for him – with both feet. When combined, these small details have allowed Louis to become a confident, creative young footballer who can not only play 1v1 but also recognises where and when to combine with others – it came as no surprise when we learned that Walsall FC accepted him into their Academy.”

“Everyone at Coerver® Midlands are delighted to hear this positive news and we look forward to continually aiding his growth – both on and off the pitch.”

After his initial weeks with Walsall FC, Louis remains understandably excited about this next step of his football career however, he knows that there is still work ahead.

”Coerver® has been fundamental in helping me to develop my skills, speed, strength and small-group play” said Louis. “I have been a part of Coerver® for a little over two years and in this time I have grown in both confidence and ability. I now look forward to developing even further while at the academy of Walsall FC in addition to the support I receive in the Coerver® Performance Academy.”

The Performance Academy is the UK’s Premier Grassroots Player Development programme for Boys & Girls, 7-17 years old and offers an un-rivalled level of support, both on and off the training field.
