Coerver® Coaching with adidas®: A Great Success in Johannesburg

In the middle of World Cup fever, Coerver® Coaching arrived in Johannesburg to conduct two training seminars for coaches as part of the adidas® Exchange Program. The first 2-day seminar involved coaches from 28 countries taking part with their teams in the Football for Hope Festival, part of FIFA's high-profile commitment to football for human and social development. The international group included coaches from South Africa, Senegal, Argentina, Brazil, England, India, Australia and Tahiti.

Head Instructor Brad Douglass was joined by Madrid-based Coerver® coach Manuel Ojalvo who helped communicate the seminar to coaches from Latin America. The feedback from the seminar was highly positive, with many coaches commenting the material would help them to create more dynamic, educational and age-appropriate training programs for their players.

The second seminar involved 20 coaches from the local Alexandra Football Club. Alexandra is one of the most historic townships in South Africa and is renown for its soccer excellence. On the final day 60 enthusiastic young players joined the coaches for a finale of Coerver® Coaching activities in Alexandra Stadium. Meetings also took place with the President and Technical Director of Alexandra FC with the goal of creating a pilot Coerver® Coaching program to develop the skills of a new generation of South African players. Stay tune for more on that.

Coerver® Coaching and the adidas® Exchange Program Support Football Social Development Projects at the Football for Hope Festival 2010 in Johannesburg

adidas® have signed up Coerver® Coaching to provide a 14-hr training clinic, June 29-30, for coaches from 40 countries using football as a tool for human and social development. The 40 coaches are participating with their teams in the Football for Hope Festival 2010, a showcase for FIFA’s expanding CSR commitment. The clinic, coordinated by streetfootballworld, will be led by Brad Douglass, Technical Director of Coerver® International.

Coerver® Coaching kicked off this new adidas® Exchange Program initiative in December, 2009, with a pilot session for 15 coaches in Capetown and more recently a 2-day clinic in Bremen, Germany for young leaders and coaches from 8 different organizations across the German Street Football Network.

Andy Howard, adidas®’s coordinator for the adidas® Exchange Program commented: “The Coerver® instructors fully demonstrated their unique ability to connect with both coaches and players. We can be sure that if we deliver sessions of similar quality, the adidas® Exchange Program will have a lasting effect on the participants and their organizations.”

Coerver® is scheduled to deliver up to 10 clinics in Europe, Africa and the Americas in 2010.

If successful, the program may be expanded for 2011-14.

¨We are delighted that adidas® have selected us for this exciting initiative,” said Alf Galustian, Co-Founder and International Director of Coerver® Coaching. “We believe the Coerver® Coaching method will add significant value to the training curricula of these football social development projects, further developing soccer skills as well as life-skills such as self-esteem, confidence and creativity.”
