Coerver Work With EPL Club Bolton Wanderers FC

Coerver® Coaching UK director, Scott Wright, recently conducted an elite coach education clinic for Premier League™ club, Bolton Wanderers FC. The clinic gave academy staff at the club an insight into the latest Coerver® Coaching’s methodology on elite player development, which is currently utilised by many top professional clubs and federations around the world.

Scott said “During the clinic I delivered two themed theory and practical sessions, the first being on individual development for creating & converting goal chances using Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi as the model. In our opinion this is an important factor if you are working with young players in terms of linking your sessions to the skills and styles of the best players and teams in the game to inspire and motivate the young players that you work with, no matter the level. The second session was based on small group play development using the German Fast Break Attack model which Alf Galustian worked on with Jurgen Klinsmann during their time working together. This allowed the coaches to see how the individual skills worked on in the morning session could be integrated with combination plays to perform an effective counter attack which plays such an important part in the modern game.”

Bolton Wanderers FC U7-U11 age group co-ordinator, Dave Gardiner said of the clinic “The clinic has been fantastic and is something we were keen to do and it has lived up to the expectations that we had. It has been a great day for the lads and has shown us how Coerver is delivered at this level and will definitely provide them with some new ideas for their own sessions”.

Also attending the clinic was Bolton Wanderers FC academy coach, Neil Poynton who played nearly 600 professional games during a 20 year career, who during this time won the English League Championship with Everton FC. Neil said of the clinic “It’s like everything today, everyone is looking for the skilful player, Coerver develops the technique that players need to play professional football, or in fact any football. I have worked with Scott previously and everything he has done today has been different, everything changes like the game of football and obviously the experience that Scott and the Coerver programme has, provides you with so many avenues to follow and as a coach that is what you want. At every level of the game whether it be grassroots, centre of excellence or academy football, Coerver is an ideal programme to follow”.

Scott summarised the clinic by saying “It’s great to be invited into an established Premier League club such as Bolton Wanderers, I believe today we have shown the coaching staff exactly what Coerver is now in 2012. We have been around a long time and the programme has evolved considerably during the last 28 years, from teaching skill to teaching the effective and consistent game use of skill. In our opinion there is a big difference between the two and this is essential knowledge that all coaches of young players need to have if we are to produce more players in this country that have the attributes to play the game at the highest level.”
